New on we7 - 27.04.09

On we7 this week as always, we are bringing you all the latest music to listen to for free.

Folk legend Bob Dylan releases his 33rd studio album today.  Together Through Life contains "struggling love songs" and has been described as having little similarity to Modern Times - the last album released by Dylan.  In celebration of this release we've put together a Bob Dylan Playlist which highlights some of hits from his vast back catalogue.

Ben Harper's Relentless 7 release their debut effort White Lies For Dark Times, which Top 40.com describe as "a timeless rock record, with a cohesive collection of music that is as raw, unrelenting and thunderous, as it is arrestingly haunting and emotional".

Canadian indie rockers Metric release their 4th album Fantasies, which features the single
Help, I'm Alive and Golden Silvers bring us True Romance an original and thought provoking debut album. 

On the singles front Pink releases Please Don't Leave Me, the third love/hate single from the album Funhouse.  Girls Aloud's Untouchable is available, which Sarah Harding describes as "so Nineties, a proper pop dance song. It’s got that trancy, chilled Ibiza feel.  I get lost in the music at the beginning and then it builds and builds and builds. You just want to go mental."

We also have The Maccabees' Love You Better, Something Is Squeezing My Skull from Morrissey and The Chapman Family's Kids.

New on we7 - 20.04.09

New music on we7 this week consists of the Noisettes new album Wild Young Hearts.  Named after the green triangular chocolate from Quality Street(!), these London indie popsters bring us their second album which features their hit single Don't Upset The Rhythm.

With the charismatic vocal coming from frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa this album is full of energetic pop hooks and sing along choruses - a great summer soundtrack!

Glaswegian folk-poppers Camera Obscura release their fourth album My Maudlin Career - a bittersweet record with uplifting melodies coupled with poignant lyrics, definitely has a distinct sound of yester-year and is possibly their most accomplished album to date.

Alternative rock four-piece Fightstar release Be Human, their third studio album and rumour has it they are finally able to shake off the stigma of pop-punk band Busted, which has followed since their inception. The album features the first two singles The English Way and Mercury Summer and is full of energetic melodies and experimental orchestral rock sounds.

Singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lewis and The Junkyard releases Em Are I, his latest album which offers the usual anti-folk ditties and philosophical lyrics.

We bought it to you exclusively last week with NME.com, one week ahead of release, and now Depeche Mode's new album Sounds Of The Universe is officially out today and worth visiting if you haven't already.

UK Grime artist Tinchy Stryder brings us his latest single Number 1, which he wrote with N-Dubz' Dappy.

Hotly tipped London Duo The Big Pink release latest single Velvet, which delivers with their usual use of gritty beats, droning guitars and dreamy vocals.

New on we7 - 14.04.09

On we7 this week we have another listening party!  That's right we continue to bring you the latest music from the hottest new artists before it's officially available and out on the streets!

This time it's with New York indiestars The Virgins - hear their self titled debut album a week ahead of its release!  The track Rich Girls was number 68 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.  You can also get to know the band a little better in our interview with them - find out what they've got coming up in 2009, UK festivals and what inspires them on the road.

We also have Lady Sovereign's new album Jigsaw.  This is her second release after taking some time out following her 2006 album Public Warning.  She returns to form with her own breed of UK Grime and comic lyrics, led by some synth and dance orientation.  We recently caught up with Lady S to get the low down on the album and what she's been up to - find out more now!

Also available today Super Furry Animals' ninth studio album Dark Days/Light Years, Twisted Wheel's self titled debut album, Ursula 1000's album Mystics and The Enemy's comeback single No Time For Tears.

On we7 this week we have another special listening party with British DJ and musician Ironik.

You can listen to Ironik's new album 3 weeks before it's released!  No Point in Wasting Tears is his debut effort, which includes his first hit single Stay With Me and his third single Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer), which features Sir Elton John and samples from his legendary hit of the same title.

We also have Calvin Harris' new dance track I'm Not Alone, Just Jack's latest single Embers and Justin Timberlake is bringing sexy back again, this time collaborating on Ciara's new single Love, Sex, Magic.

Pioneering artist Bat For Lashes (pseudonym of Natasha Khan), releases her second album Two Suns, which according to her is "a record of modern-day fables exploring dualities on a number of levels – two lovers, two planets, two sides of a personality," bringing reflection about "the philosophy of the self and duality, examining the need for both chaos and balance, for both love and pain, in addition to touching on metaphysical ideas concerning the connections between all existence."  Well indeed, that is exactly what we were going to say!!

The album features her latest single Daniel, where the single artwork features Natasha with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back...could this be a tribute to the wax on..wax off kid?!  You make your mind up and give it a listen!
