‘The Voice’ announces its coaches

Jessie J, Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Danny from The Script have been confirmed as the four coaches on new BBC talent search show The Voice.

For those who haven’t seen the show before and are concerned about there being yet another another talent competition on primetime TV, do not fear. The format of The Voice is actually pretty brilliant - we watched the recent US series, featuring Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton and absolutely loved it.

The initial auditions are ‘blind’ which means the four mentors are actually facing away from the stages as the hopefuls sing. If they like what they hear, they hit a button and their chair spins around, declaring they want the contestant on their team. If only one coach turns around, the singer is then on their team, but if a singer is lucky enough to have two or more coaches turn around, they get to choose whose team they join & the coaches have to battle it out.

This video from the USA series may help explain it:

And here is a great ‘blind audition’ from the show:

The UK’s version is due to start in March 2012. Check out the website for more information.

In news that will surprise absolutely no-one, the X Factor finalists 2011 (feat. JLS and One Direction) have rocketed straight to the top of the UK Singles chart this week with their charity single ‘Wishing On A Star’. The song, raising money for children’s charity ‘Together For Short Lives’, is one of only two new entries in the Top 40. It is the fourth charity single released by finalists in the show, and the fourth to top the charts.

Olly Murs, runner up in Series 6 of The X Factor, retains at #2 spot with ‘Dance With Me Tonight’, the song he performed on last week’s show with The Muppets (yes, you did read that correctly..) while Rihanna ft Calvin Harris ‘We Found Love’ drops from 1-3. Impressively, even though it’s been in the charts for only 9 weeks, the track is the 10th biggest selling single of the year so far.

The only other new entry in the top 10 is Jessie J, whose emotive single ‘Who You Are’ rises from #37 up to #8 this week. It was revealed by the Official Charts Company last week that Jessie J’s debut album, also titled ‘Who You Are’, is the biggest selling debut album of the year so far.

Emili Sande, who has just been announced as Coldplay’s support act for their upcoming European tour, scored the second highest new entry in the charts with ‘Daddy’ in at #21.

Finally, now that December is upon us, Christmas songs have begun to climb the charts and this week two favourites, The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl ’Fairytale Of New York’ and Mariah Carey ’All I Want For Christmas Is You’, have entered the Top 40 at #s 23 and 27 respectively.

We’ve created a radio station combining the biggest sellers and the most requested tracks on WE7.COM in the past week - listen to it now:
